Migrants on their way back to the tropics for the winter, the warblers and vireos, reach their peak in our woodlands early to mid-month. This is also the peak period for migrating Ruby-throated Hummingbirds.

Shorebird migration peaks in August but continues through September. Listed wetland sites are the most consistent for shorebirds, but the best sites vary year to year depending on rainfall. Flooded fields may be good in wet years; receding water levels at area lakes may often create productive mudflats in dry ones.

Look for migrating American White Pelicans (all month), gulls and terns (mid to late) on area lakes.
